How do I repair my Windows XP installation? I've been having some problems lately that I'd liked fixed.
If someone could run me through the entire process that would be great...

Thanks!

How do I repair my Windows XP installation?

Isnt it just to put the WinXP CD in the drive then boot and then select repair???

If someone could run me through the entire process that would be great...

Haven't try to repair my Windows but must be very simple... Couple of next buttons to press I guess...

Yeah, I've tried that already... I configured my CDROM to by my first boot device, popped in the Windows XP CD, and chose repair. When I did that it asked me to choose which installation I wanted to repair, so chose 1 and pressed ENTER. It asked for the administrative password (which is nothing), so I just pressed ENTER again and it brought me to a command prompt. I typed in 'help' and they listed all of the commands, but none of them seemed like they could be used to repair my installation.. they were basically beefed up DOS commands.

Anyone? I've heard it recommened to other people before, but I've never figured out how to do it. I think it would help me with my problem. I won't loose any of my data (registry entries) will I?

I think I did that once by not choosing repair. I went ahead with a clean install and at a certain point it
saw that I had a XP install and asked if I wanted to do a clean install or repair the old one. You dont want
to go to the recovery console. Thats when you wind up at the command line.

Thanks Basie! I did that and it repaired my Windows XP installation and now it's running smoothly with no problems.
