Repairing media center edition 2005?

Hi,
I use windows XP media center edition 2005 and a few weeks ago the media center application stopped working. I would get the "no tv tuners detected" error (not related to the update rollup 2 because that took place a while ago)
The file "ehrecvr.exe" also crashes after restarting the PC.
Everything else works just fine.

How can I reinstall or repair the media center edition portion without a full format?

TIA!~

I dont think you can, unfortunetly. Hopefully some one else can give you a better answer but I dont think there is a way to "uninstall" and "reinstall' the MCE 'app' portion.

Are you sure it's the media center app? sounds like it's possibly a bad tuner driver, or board.

pull the tuner card and see if you can get Media Center working without it, then install the board again.

Yeah I would try pulling the tuner card(s) and seeing if it all works then, sounds like the drivers or install of those might have become corrupted somehow. Otherwise, I would think that the Windows System File Check would also cover the Media Center components... so you could try 'sfc /scannow' from the Run window.

Media center works fine except for the tuner or tv part.
I can even watch my videos through the extender without a problem. It is the Live tv that I have problems with.

I removed all drivers using the Hauppauge "clear" utility and reinstalled the drivers again but no go either.

Thanks for the replies!

I concur w/ contacting Hauppage support; this definitely sounds like a problem with either the tuner itself or the drivers for it.

PCI or USB?
Do you have another machine to put the tuner into?

If you do, you should be able to test (at least the not MCE only versions) your tuner & drivers on another syste in order to verify what we seem to think is the problem.

Of course another tuner card would be able to show the same thing (I have an Avermedia PCI and a hauppage USB)

Hi guys,

I got tired of playing around with drivers and repailr tricks so I decided to format (again)

Whatever it was, is gone now and everything works as it should

Thanks for your replies!
