Repairing floppy?

I have a sony Mavica.. the ones that use floppy disks as storage media, and I took some pictures with it of a party.

I got home and went to save the pictures to my computer and the disk apparently has a big fat error or something. It's slow to open and the camera is saying there is an error on the disk, too. Whenever I try to open the files on the disk, it says it is not formatted.

Obviously, I want to keep what is on there, but it won't let me save them. Is there anything I can do?

There is a reason we do not use floppy disks anymore.

As for saving it, there is ways you can get a lil info off it, but usually it is up in the big floppy disk heaven, especially with FAT errors.

mavica = horrible
how can you take pics on 1.44mb of storage? im usually run out on my 128mb cf card

Thanks for the help, halik. I'll buy a time machine and go back to 3 years ago when I bought the camera and tell myself not to. That will fix the problem. Thanks!

You can use specialty utilities, or try a scandisk. 10 to 1 both FAT records are lost, so unless you take it to a specialty data recovery place, your disk is tits up.

thats so stupid...i bet you cant do it at all!!

If you broke your floppy, it will probably take a good surgeon to repair it. OH, A CAMERA. Got it.

Our Mavica uses mini-cds.

Thanks for all the "help" guys. :-\

I found a utility called "Bad Copy" that recovered each and every file on the disk.

Then I promptly urinated on the disk to show my displeasure with it.

Okay, that was a lie. It felt good saying it though.

floppies losing data? thats not new at all. floppies are unreliable. as for how it gets any usable space off a floppy, i guess it compresses the heck out of the pics😛

LoL

That MavicaFD was an awesome idea when VGA was the high resolution. Now though... I'm amazed they're STILL selling for a coupla hundred bucks!

My bro in law has 2 MavicaCD's ... The old 2.1 MP model and the new 5 MP model. He loves both of 'em. THey are pretty cool cams... 😀

<---still wanting a high res digicam or DV camcorder. 🙁
