Hmmmm, you're going to need to do a high-level format. Basically find a program that writes 0's to the drive and then do a clean install of your OS of choice. Western Digtal supplies a program on the floppy you get with their HDD's. I dunno about Maxtor. I believe Partition Magic has a feature like that, I'm not sure. Basically I'm telling you that you need to erase EVERYTHING on the HDD. The MBR, Data, everything. This virus seems serious so writing 0's to the drive will work. It'll clean anything left on the HDD.

Ouch, then you're SOL. BTW, what OS are you running? XP needs SP1a and Windows 9.x needs all the updates you can get.

RMA it. That's the only thing I can think of. Is it an WD of Maxtor? If it's an WD, I strongly suggest using the floppy that came with it to write zeros to the drive. I may sound like I'm repeating my self but something is telling me you only formated . . . . .

This thread seems to be going in circles. All games are going to use 100% of your cpu... that's not unusual. If you really think your installation is toast from viruses (you said you removed them?) NokiaDude is correct, though it's called a low-level format. :) If it is, as you say, a WD drive, use WD's utility to write zeros to the drive:

http://support.wdc.com/download/dlg/dlginstall_10_0.exe

If your games are lagging, especially online more than usual, you might try searching for spyware on your computer with a program like AdAware or SpyBot. Spyware is a barely legal "virus" that can hamper your connection and send information about your browsing habits to another computer, change your browser's homepage, add unwanted icons to your desktop or pop up random ads.

format c: is a high level format. Low level formatting is impossible these days - it can only be done at the factory on new drives. The closest you can get is a zero-writer from the manufacturer.

What I do to kill drives: (this assumes you have only ONE hard drive - the infected one)
Make a boot disk on an uninfected PC; use the Win98SE, no RAMdrive disk from Bootdisk.com That should include the fdisk and format utilities.
Download ZAP (a file from IBM), and put it on the disk. Now do the little write protect tab on the disk to keep it safe from infection.
Put the disk in the infected computer, and boot off the floppy.
At the command prompt, type in zap 0, and confirm Yes. This'll take a fraction of a second to complete.
Now you should be able to Fdisk and format the drive again, using either the fdisk and format c: /u commands, or else boot off of a Windows CD, and do the disk setup/formatting through that.
This should kill the virus (and everything else) on the disk.

I don't think there's any problem at all. Maybe the game is just closing slow cuz it takes awhile to close

When you wiped out the drive, I assume you needed to reinstall your OS. Is it possible that you have a problem in something like a video card driver installation? It's quite possible that you're now experiencing something non-virus related.
