Repair shop said hood latch difficult to operate because the cable has become stretched. I'm trying to find out how much the cable itself would cost me to see about doign it through my family guy (aka no labor cost) but having zero luck finding one listed at any part place. It would be for a saturn vue.

Edit: oops. Saw that it was a Saturn Vue. When the cable broke on my 96 Galant, I paid 50 bucks to fix it. I don't remember the exact parts cost though.

I would verify this. Yeah, cables can stretch - in throttle systems and stuff where things need to be precise then it's a problem. In a hood latch? The cable should be able to stretch a good 1/2"+ before it's really a problem.

Take a good look at the latch in the engine bay, have someone else pull the level and try to see where the slack is.. Maybe a bracket is bending/bent, etc?

Not if the movement of the release is only 1/2"...
