I'm guessing this is a rhetorical device (i.e., lie) designed to attempt to shift the attention away from your extreme partisanship. What are your reasons for voting for Obama?

HaHa... you are good and correct...

Better Know a District - Georgia's 8th - Lynn Westmoreland

Oh, man, Colbert replayed this interview tonight (you have to scroll down the link page and select the proper clip, it won't be the one first up in the vid window.)

This guy is WORLD CLASS STUPID. I can't emphasize this enough. He is STUPID throughout the interview, really, dumb as brick (no offense to bricks.)

I am from Michigan, and I have always known "uppity" as a racist term. I didn't know it could be used in any other way.

Are they the White Power brigade or something? Making sure them black'uns don't get special treatment?

I've never heard "uppity" be used as racial slang. Not once. I've used the term many times in my life, usually about white people from what I can remember.

Democrats are so full of ****, so pathetic. There is no racist connotation in Westmoreland's statement. Himself confirmed this, not too long ago.

Asked to clarify that he used the word ?uppity,? Westmoreland said, ?Uppity, yeah.?[7][8] The ensuing media attention compelled Rep. Westmoreland, who was raised in a Georgia suburb in the days of "Jim Crow," to issue the following statement: "I?ve never heard that term used in a racially derogatory sense. It is important to note that the dictionary definition of ?uppity? is ?affecting an air of inflated self-esteem -- snobbish.? That?s what we meant by uppity when we used it in the mill village where I grew up."[6]

Do you need more? Seriously, stop trying to find beef where there is none. It is not because the guy's not supporting Obama that he is automatically racist.

OK, proof positive. You've completely convinced me. After all, a politician would never lie or even shade the truth when he realizes he just screwed up on a national stage, would he?

How long have you lived in the Deep South?

Long enough to know he's telling the truth. Anyway, even if he wasn't (and that would totally surprise me), Obama or the Dems have no case against him, no proof that he was deliberately using some "racist" (even if it is not) term to describe Obama and his family.

They could complain, but they would look like silly idiots on a National stage.

Personally I wouldn't really care if he called Obama a n*, but holy shit, how can people be this dumb? You have no knowledge of the racial overtones of this word in the south? Have you never studied any American history dealing with slavery or the civil rights movement? Is the American educational system truly this pathetic? Crack open a history book if you are truly this ignorant.

Like I said, even if it is racist, the Dems and Obama have no case, so why make a big fuss out of it?

He can refute everything they throw at him.

I'm guessing you don't actually know what a rhetorical device is.

I've been saying for over a year in here that I'd be voting for Obama for the simple reason that I believe him to be the best overall candidate for the job. If you want to know who the real partisans are then pay attention to those regulars in here who consistently trot out the 'I hate [insert candidate]' and '[insert candidate] sucks' threads. This forum is currently rife with such threads.

East of the mississippi, I've lived in virginia/dc, ohio and georgia. Using uppity with a racist connotation is the only way I've heard it used. But in southern georgia, I rarely hear it used - people just use the n-word as easy as rain. Ironically, some of the most racist people I've ever met have been from kentucky and indiana.

btw, kentucky isn't considered the south by georgians - w.virginia isn't either.

So, for you boys who think it's just a word, you won't mind being called a cracker, I suppose.

Oh goody, political correctness strikes again. I seem to remember when Obama goofed with his supposedly sexist "sweetie" remark, people rallied to his defense saying he was just being spontaneous an that people shouldn't assume his intentions were bad.

The only thing I'm surprised about is the fact that the Congressman was able to curb the language and leave out the word n****r, seeing as how's it's doubtful he's ever heard one word without the other following right behind it.

Jeez, alright, people are getting carried away here.

I live in the SE and the word does have other uses outside the context of race.

It's applied to all types of (snobby) people who act like they're better than others, whether it be an attractive woman, white guy or whatever.

Still, bad choice of wording IMO.

Fern

Couldn't agree more.

lol, keep trying to whitewash it.

I lived my teens outside Charleston SC in the 70s, my folks still live there, and that term was commonplace along with a lot of other racist language. How old is this guy? He's 10 years older than me and lived his life in the South. He's from Georgia and claims ignorance? Well, I'll grant him that he's ignorant, but not on use of that particular word.

Instead of spending time on a worthless and already lost case, try to convince your candidate to re-unite with the American People.

How about you do the same?
And you failed to answer my query, so I'll ask again; how is Obama making a case out of this?

I did not imply or mean that they were making a case. I was implying that there IS no case to be made here. Not at all. You cannot refute a personal opinion (that is, the meaning of the word "uppity").

To give Obama/campaign staff credit apparently he isn't. He's letting his press bots do the dirty work for him. The backlash from this onslaught of calling him what he is will be stellar.

You certainly did so imply that Obama is making a case out of this.

It would have been stellar if McCain had denounced the Corsi book.

Can you say "disingenuous"?

Cool! I've apparently been hired as an Obama press bot! When do I start getting the checks?
