Ontario (?) and other countries have put these into effect, FWIW. I'm surprised they are only made in China, too.

The law never sat well with me. I use them, but my wife complains about their light. I've also found that in bad weather, outside, at least the two I've tried burn up quicker than incandescent and they do cost more. We're not told to control other energy in the way we are these so it's a bit missing the forest for the trees.

I generally disagree with a federal mandate regarding what bulbs should be used, but that was pretty dumb.

- Conservation is equally as important as technological innovation in finding a solution to the energy issue
- There can be RF interference from damn near anything receiving power
- Oh no, CFLs aren't made in America! That means they must be evil! Cue soliloquy about the good ol' days of America Alone

No one cares what the Constitution says.

No, I'm going to bend down and sniff its spilled contents. Vishnu forbid that instructions be given on how to react when a potentially dangerous material is exposed. It's obvious that people will be "hauled off to jail" by the EPA police for not following the instructions to the letter.

Representative Poe, defending the right of Americans to not have to read since 2004.

You haven't seen horror until you've seen the victim of a Vitamin C overdose. :(

His primary argument seems to be that CFLs are hard to use and can be dangerous, which is a reasonable argument.

What's not reasonable is what you seem to have taken from it -- that the congress should not tell US what kind of fricken light bulb we have to use. They already tell us we can't use directly dangerous things like lead-based paint in our homes and they already tell us we can't use indirectly dangerous things like CFCs. Should we allow people to use either of those?
