Rep Sen. Jim DeMint: Let's Ban Gays and Single Women From Teaching

I really wish this was an Onion article. It's not. It's what the Republican party has become.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2010_10/025960.php

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) attempted to convince pastors that economic issues are moral issues at the Greater Freedom Rally at a church in Spartanburg, South Carolina yesterday, imploring them to help conservatives retake Congress in November.

In addition to reiterating anti-choice talking points on abortion and backing "traditional marriage," according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the senator went further and "said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend -- she shouldn't be in the classroom."

In the 21st century, a man who will be a Senate leader should Republicans take the Senate, doesn't believe in evolution, global warming, AND WANTS TO BAN GAYS AND UNMARRIED WOMEN FROM TEACHING.

Link is borked.
To be honest though, I understand the guy's point. I don't agree with it, but I do understand it.

If we ban all sinners from teaching we close the schools.

If only there were a viable alternative to Senator DeMented in this year's general election...

As are all the Republican closeted gays and adulterers in the house and senate.

Apparently being openly gay is worse than lying about your "wide stance."

Would he agree than every Republican guilty of adultery or "teh gayness" should be forced to resign from the house and senate? Didn't think so.

Surprise, surprise. The Republicans finds freedom destructive. Silly Republicans thinks freedom is fine as long as you agree with them.

It's only a matter of time before this guy has his own sex scandal. In the meantime, popcorn!

Reading his wiki page, he apparently said something like this in 2004 and then apologized. Guess he forgot.

This is not only an embarrassment for the US - that's the least of our concerns. It's a danger that these views can be expressed by a US Senator in this time.

What I mean is that the level of ignorance, the poor level of appreciation of rights and homosexuality, are indicative of having too many voters who are really terrible and who are happy to endorse all kinds of bad things for America. It shows how our democracy is weak for so many people in not educating them, not teaching them democratic values.

This guy is at 'President of Iran' levels of problem.

As far as I'm concerned, the Democratic nominee, if he's as bad as it seems, is the better choice - the less bad choice.

What is fucking amazing to me is that this asshole is what the world sees when they look at America. If this turd is a backward Neanderthal here, imagine how he looks to the rest of the civilized world.
