Reoccurring Error Driving Me NUTS!

I get this error almost daily. It can happen at anytime for no apparent reason- I can not relate it to a certain action. After it happens, my icons disappear, the screen refreshes bringing my icons back, and a few of the program icons on my taskbar are no longer there.

It's driving me nuts!!!

I now have an Athlon 64 system, bot the same thing happened on my Athlon XP system.

Any ideas of the culprit?

Here's a picture of the error.

The *literal* meaning of that is just that an application crashed.

Is it the same application every day? Does it happen if you reinstall the OS? If you remove all RAM but one DIMM and re-test, does it happen? Did you move your HDD from your AMD to your AMD64 system or did you reinstall the OS when you moved?

What voltage is your memory being run at, what brand & model are the modules, and what motherboard do you have?

Of course you can run Memtest to check out the memory, but if you just get the error and there is no associated application crash, or IE shutting itself down and wanted to call home to Mommy you could simply go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and tick the check box for "Disable Script Debugging" and at least you wouldn't be annoyed by the error message every day.

I ran Memtest and it came up with no errors.

IE shutting itself down and wanted to call home to Mommy you could simply go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and tick the check box for "Disable Script Debugging" and at least you wouldn't be annoyed by the error message every day.

I'm not getting a script error. I am familiar with those and do have "disable script debugging" box ticked.

This error can happen in the middle of playing a game, surfing the net,- anything! I'm going to start writing down what I was doing when I get the error & perhaps that will help narrow it down.

What voltage are you using? For DDR400, use 2.6-2.7 volts, not Auto. You don't run your Porsche on regular-octane gas... yeah. ;)

(speaking of which... decent brand of PSU in there?)

I assume you've already disabled background applications as well, right? Any one of the many add-ons that hook into explorer (shell) that cause a problem can bring down explorer.

Are you getting a watson dump when this occurs? (start, run, drwtsn32)

Well, it's not the memory. I borrowed a stick of RAM and I got the same error.

Aha, Sianath, I think you may have solved my problem. Yes, I'm getting a Watson dump, and the program causing it is running in the backround. Going to delete it now. Thanks and I'll let you know how I make out.
