Renting a Counter Strike server...or at least admin

My friend and I have a counter strike server that we run and we were thinking about getting a better machine so we could run two server clients in virtual consoles on linux. We had then thought we could rent out one of the servers to a clan for like $25/month and give them full rights to change maps, kick, ban, and so on. Has anyone ever done this? Is there a market for it? Is there any good place to advertise such a service?

We had also considered advertising on our public server for like $5/month admin rights. So people could change maps, votemap, votekick, and perhaps kick. We run a 24/7 server and generally have it on the same map unless an admin (me or one of my friends) comes on and changes it. At the height, we had seen about 3200 players come through the server with many of them returning again and again.

I should mention that we ran a 1.5 server and I believe that is why we ended up being so big. But if we were to rent out the server to clans we would almost definatly go to 1.6.

Just wondering if anyone has done this? Either has a provider or user. Or if anyone just had general thoughts on if this would be a good idea. Honestly, I'd just like to make enough to justify buying a really nice server. Maybe a Dell or just a custom build.

So is your server on something bigger than t1? Running a real server off of cable or dsl would be worthless and noone would want it. I mean you could probably run small games. If you run at really cheap prices I would advertise on the CAL forums if you can. I'm sure there are plenty of people interested, the trick is finding them.

It isn't cable or DSL. I am on my college network. And it would be something small. No more than 16 people, which we know we can do at a decent speed.

You need LOTS of BW and for it to be very stable. We went thru quite a few servers till we found our current one which is stable and we run about 7 differnt games on it ( 2 DoD, NS, FA, BF, BFV, RO, HL Rally Racing) at the same time. We go thru http://www.servermatrix.com/ for our game server. Here is a list of some of the ip's for games we run if you want to check it out http://www.uberdod.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=98
and our clan site is uberdod.com

I used to do that. Had an excellent computer and connection. Was able to run at one point 8 16 person servers without the computer even using a portion of it's resources. Could have ran 8 more.

The problem your going to run into is kiddies begging you for free servers or free access. I had mine setup and I let a friends clan run it so there would be people in it at all times and advertising was up as well.

Hard to sell cause too many kiddies are out there to think that it's just something cool pay for 1 month and not pay ever again (had alot of fun shutting down accounts that didn't pay)
