Most companies will pay the standard mileage rate. 800 miles = $356. Will your car value drop by that much with 800 more miles? Heck, you could very possibly profit from driving - depending on your current vehicle status.

That's what I ended up doing at my previous job when I went to NY but I really prefer not to drive my car anywhere far. It's not that old but it just makes me nervous. Plus the money got taxed so it wasn't that great afterwards (i'm pretty sore after this years taxes).

Rent a UHaul or other "moving van".

Seriously. They'll rent those to ANYBODY. I got a pair of 26ft's last weekend.

If you get one of the small ones, or better yet, a straight cargo van, it'll still be pretty damned driveable. You'll look like a total douche when you go to park it, though 😛

Don't think they'd let me rent a uhaul for 4 days and drive it cross state lines. But if you know somewhere that will, can I get a number or website?

Um, there is a tax deduction for work mileage. You shouldn't have to pay taxes on this in most cases.

You're hired...screw HR Block, they probably missed a bunch of other deductions I could've made
