I didn't plan on getting renters insurance but with the purchase of a big screen and the apartments require it when installing a dish so there is no liability if anything happens. I was just wondering if you guys don't mind how much your paying with the coverage and the area. I'm assuming mine will be more cause of my location in south florida with hurricanes ect...

Thanks

i forget, but mine I believe is about $150-$175 a year, in kentucky. The cost was pretty much offset by the discount I got on my car insurance for going multi-policy.

i actually just purchased it last week because I wanted to insure the engagement ring i bought for my girl, and I had to have homeowners or renter insurance first to add the ring to.

for my stuff valued at $20K and my girls ring that I said would appraise for around $10K, I'm paying $182/yr with a $500 deductable.

I'm in Rockville, MD, which is about 2 miles north of NW DC.

Mine is about $200/year in Austin, TX, although I saved about $150/year on car insurance because of the multi-policy discount they offer. This is with coverage up to $25k.

Figure $15-$20/month for about $5K-$10K worth of coverage.

Having the policy piggybacked on some other insurance may generatea discount. Check with your existing policy's

wow. some are paying a lot

the few years i have rented i was paying around $120 a year. That was for Extra covarage for all the computers i had in the house (if you had over $10k in computers you needed extra covorage). But i saved the same amount with the multi-policy discount heh

I have renter's insurance and pay $10-$15/month for $25k coverage and a rider for my wife's engagement ring. We have our car insurance through the same company so that gets us a discount. We're in the Detroit area.

I'm also in the Detroit area and have a similar plan through USAA.

I pay something like $200 year and am basically covered for upto $25k. This is with AAA in California. So if my place burns to the ground, I can get all new stuff. (aside from things that just can't be had anymore)

I got it last night for my new apartment. I think it covers up to just under $40,000 worth - I don't have but maybe half that - for right about $300/year. Will come down a little bit when I set up the automatic payments since they give a discount for that. It's also saving about $100/year on my auto insurance for multiple policies. I live on the east coast of Florida so it's higher because of the threat of hurricanes.

any recommendations for companies to get renter's insurance with? I keep thinking it's time I sign up for it, but I just don't know who to go with.

I'm in Southern California.

I know Geico and State Farm both offer it, but I don't know if they offer it in your area.

Your large carriers (Allstate, State Farm, etc.) offer it.
Check out the CA state insurance board website. It should offer a list of admitted carriers.

EDIT: Here you go.

I am not 100% certain but I do know it offset my car insurance. I am with State Farm. Excellent company if I must say.
