renter's insurance..

the kids stuff has been covered under our homeowners insurance in the dorms up til now and my son (1st year) is still, but this year my daughter (4th year) is over 21 and living (or will be, if it ever becomes habitable.. tomorrow, maybe.. ) in an apartment off campus with her boyfriend.. 22 and no longer a student so.. her stuff may still be covered under my homeowners (not sure) because she's still a student but for sure his stuff isn't, so.. they need renters insurance. and it's been.. 24 years since I needed to shop for such a thing.

I bet at least a few of you guys know where to get the best coverage/price combo..

i use state farm and i'm relatively happy. it's relatively cheap (about $200 for the entire year).

my husband looked at other insurance options, but we decided that state farm was best.

rental insurance can be had for even like $130 depending on how much coverage you need.

I paid about 150.00 a year when I had mine. Ask your local car insurance agent. I'm sure they can write her a policy, or you a policy for the apt. If you pay more than 175 you're getting hosed.

I am 22 and just got renters insurance today.

You can usually get a discount if you use the same insurance that you use for other coverages, such as auto. Overall it is very affordable anyway and a must if you are renting and care about your belongings.

For instance, I got a $15k coverage and it will be only $130-150/yr.

by the way, this is for the bronx.

it's obviously cheaper in other areas.

we have state farm for everything (well.. cars and homeowners) already so that's the path of least resistance for us, for sure.. already have an agent and all.. but it's not my money I'm spending this time so I figured I'd collect some options for them. this whole apartment disaster proves they need some decision making practice..

that's the catch.. they don't have their own car insurance because she doesn't have a car and he doesn't have a drivers license.. once he gets his license he'll have a car but.. that hasn't happened yet (he just never saw the point before) so the renters insurance will be their first venture into this particular.. venue.
