His lack of objectivity with vehicle assessments always makes for a good laugh. Alas, it was not meant to be. The original post has been edited. The one thing you need to know is that he's right, you're wrong. You can't debate facts.

It was just some minor complaints about one particular truck I rented. I already stated I may have been a bit harsh on it which is why I edited my post.

Give it a rest.

And you two bent because people get to have their choices.

The ironing.
I don't think either of us are bent. I also criticize women spending $350 on a purse but I never said it shouldn't be an option for them.

I was reminded of all this on an article this week on CNN or yahoo, a guy who's expecting a child--his first--in December of this year just bought a 2011 Pilot because of finance rates he's worried will increase. That is a fvcking big vehicle. I'm sure he needs it as much as $1000 crib.
lotta pokin goin around but its no joke, trucks are tops. 210k miles on my black 99 ranger xlt, its rusting out and looking very qualified. fucker runs like its ready for a race every day. ford trucks forever.
I like this post, though.

Oddly enough only one HD near me has a truck, the rest don't and neither does Lowes, sucks IMO...

What's the point of having shitty vehicles like this? Yesterday I high centered my corolla when getting out of a parkade and it's a regular 6" to 8" high car. It would also be impossible to go up a driveway, over speed bumps, or into a parking lot.

There is no point. As there's no point in having an SVT pickup truck.

That is retarded. Although that thing is certainly on 'bags', which can be raised enough to offer reasonable clearance for driving around town. But it's certainly useless as a truck.

Guess you did`nt read as to why it would work for Jules...?

In general...

Q: Is vehicle roof above four feet high?

If yes, then JM hates it already.

:awe:

I would rather drive a "shitty" truck like that then have to drive a Corolla...:hmm::p Also from a custom standpoint very seldom are they practical but neither is a Formula 1 car for going to the grocery store... The look good but only appeal to a certain crowd and have a limited purpose...

Here is my shitty truck (gets 18-20mpg + will tow 15,000lbs+) and Jules might be able to climb up in it but most likely break his neck when getting out...:D But I would have let him borrow it if he lived a bit closer...:)

<snip-the pics>

What really amuses me is you bragging about getting 18-20mpg. Around here you'd get 15-16mpg because of all the stop and go driving. Just curious, how often do you tow anywhere near 15,000lbs?

I see the exact truck you own all the time around here, many of them are nice and shiny and only used to haul some worthless idiot to his 9-5 desk job every day. Many of them even have lift kits and oversized tires to make the fuel economy even worse...I'm sure the owners enjoy spending $100 to fill them up every few days though. Then again, maybe they're just rich and have a Prius for their daily commute.

I have no problem with work trucks. I just think it's stupid to own one of these vehicles unless you actually need it.

So, tell us about your blue collar job and/or your farm.

Field Service Tech for Waukesha-Pearce Ind. dealer for Komatsu USA

Now Jules does this not tell you anything but it sure pays good (also have a ranch about 50 miles north of where we live)...? Also I live in Texas and everything is like 100miles away with very little stop and go driving... Also I tow our Springdale 307FKGL 33' dual slide 10,000lb travel trailer quite often and still get 12mpg... Do you see any huge tires or a lifted suspension on this truck...? BTW I also own and use an 18' steel floor dove tail car hauler and a 20' custom lowboy trailer (used both last weekend)... Besides that I shuttle goose neck trailers on the side (have a goose neck hitch in the bed) for extra $$$... How else are you going to haul 200lbs of live crawfish...? In the back of your car...? NOT...!

I do have a service truck for the job so my truck sits most of the week but on the weekends it gets a work out...

 We're cool.

Honestly, it's not as though anyone has to justify their choices to me. I just wish them luck with those choices as gas prices continue to rise.

A few years ago I was enjoying being able to ride my bicycle to work...nice and smug in my self but now I'm driving 60 miles a day. I'm making more money but cycling isn't an option and commuting by motorcycle is not really a viable a long term solution.

What amazes me is people continue to buy these vehicles when they really have no need for them.

Jules... Could`nt agree with you more on this... Also mine is just an LS not the top of the line for sure but suits what I want and need... We seldom take it because of the price of fuel, you know we also have the little Kia Soul (wife`s car) and it gets 30mpg+ so we take it most of the time... If I did`nt have the travel trailer I would have bought another or kept the 1/2 ton I had before but the only thing is my 2500HD diesel gets basicly the same fuel milage as the gasser did... Last week diesel was .04 cents cheaper than reg gas all around here...?

BTW that sucks you have to drive 60 miles per day for work... If I worked in the shop and not in the field it would`nt be to bad I`m about 1 mile from work if that far...? But with my field work I drive a Chevy 4500 duramax up to 300 miles in one day, we have a large area to cover... One cool thing is we have laptops with wireless cards and even printers right there in the cab... All of our tech material is online so we dont have to carry tons of books...

My truck will rarely get "truck" use. I use it for my daily driver. It is nice to have the option though of bringing crap home from the home depot, or carrying home that piece of furniture or appliance that was on sale, putting my bicycles in the back, and when I owned a motorcycle trailering my bike since it was wrecked at one time. Beats having a tow guy drop my bike or scratch it up and charge me $100 to tow it. I also drive on some rough backroads to get to work so it's nice just absorbing big bumps like it was nothing. Its got a ton of room on the inside and it also sits really high up so I see much more of the road as opposed to a car.
Please don't worry about how I afford the gas either. It's called having a good paying job. You should try it. I get 17mpg average and that's 40/60 city/highway. I plan on taking a trip in it and from what I've read I should expect 21-22ish on the highway.
Lastly My truck is my toy. There are more economical ways to get around sure. Everyone has a hobby or something that they waste money on like motorcycles, boats, jet ski's, etc.. I like owning my big ass truck.

A big truck AND a great paying job, epeen FTW!

I guess this Prius owner just needs to make more money, that's why they drive it, they're poor.

I hate people who drive hybrids because it means they probably have a hell of a lot more money than me. Up here the Prius is close to $30,000. People don't buy them to save money as much as they buy them to show how much they care about the environment.... until you see they live in a giant house that consumes 3x as much energy as your own house.

It would be great if the house formed a giant trollface.

They make special cheap interiors, use different engines, or tire pressure sensors for the Lowes/Home Depot fleet vehicles?

I used to work in the car rental industry. I can assure you that it is an excellent way to judge the quality of a vehicle. Of course, that was back in the late 80s to early 90s when American cars were by and large complete garbage. Let me put it to you this way, we would get in a fleet of new vehicles, GM, Toyota, Ford, Buick, Dodge/Chrysler, send them all out into the world and then 2 years and 30-40,000 miles later the ones that held up the best were the Toyotas. Ford wasn't bad, Dodge/Chrysler interiors held up well but everything else was failing. GM and Buick were falling apart and constantly in and out of the dealership. I had a brand new Pontiac with less than 100 miles on it just quit running on the freeway at 10PM on a Saturday night. I could bore you for hours with tales from my car rental days. :p

BTW-I rented a Ford Escape a few years ago and put 300 miles on it in a weekend and I have to say I was impressed by it. Nothing to complain about anyway...well, other than the gas mileage.

How do you judge a vehicle? By a 15 minute test drive at the dealership? Consumer reports?

something similar, i was in the air force for 10 years and all we could get are American made. holy shit were dodge trucks pieces of shit. Chevys were pretty decent, we drove the chevy blazer in my unit plus hummers and the chevy held up pretty well. it was a great way to experience different manufactures and models.

Less so now than in the past. Until recently a Prius could be had for $21,500-22,500. I am leasing one and the lease payments are not much more than the amount of money I save on gas vs my old vehicle (and remember they have repairs and depreciation built right into them). It made sense economically, so that's why I do it, not because I think I'm saving a single tree. Hybrids are mainstream more every year, it's not just tree hugging seal lovers who are getting these to make a statement. Cars in Canada are a scam compared to down here. Until the Tsunami a Prius could be leased at ~$170/month paying only tax, title, doc fees at signing with no turn-in fee at end of lease. Run the numbers at $4/gallon :)
