Rental Refund check related question - in California...

So i got a 350$ check from my rental office that i cant encash because my old roommate is not responding to me claling her. I also have her mail and stuff (some DMV paperwork and bills) which she hasnt collected since april.

So here is teh deal.. how do i get the darn check cashed. The rental office says something about a california law that requires all leasee's to be on the refund check. They have paperwork that shows that i put the darn money down on the apartment, but apparenlty the central office doesnt have this info or some BS like that. In either case its been 45 days since i got the check and i still havent been able to encash it. They want her to write a letter saying she lets go of all money on that refund check, but if she didnt put money down why would she have to write something. In anycase she is gone AWOL.

Background history:

I moved into my old apt in March of 2005. I put a 500$ deposit down and i was living alone there until July of 2005 when my roommate moved in. She did not put a deposit down, she added on. However her name is on the refund check paperwork.

Have you tried signing it and going to the bank?

Just got one similar to that and I was the only one that signed it and the bank took it fine
even with 3 names on the front

endorse it and deposit it in an ATM. most likely it will go through.

don't think that will work...but it's worth a try. let's see what OP reacts to this.

yeah, the worst that can happen is they mail it back to you and say they couldn't cash it. (make sure your bank has your current address, though!).

right after getting married I had some checks made out to the wife and I both, the teller told me she had to endorse them also. I just deposited them at the ATM, and it worked fine.
