I am taking a job in Little Rock at the State Capitol which is 200 miles away from home however I am keeping my residency where I live now for political reasons.

I will be renting an apartment and commuting home on weekends. My wife will not be going. The house is located 20 miles from State Capitol.

For $700 a month I get a fully furnished 1 bedroom and 1 bath guest house 60 yards from the main house which is gated. It has a covered deck overlooking Pinnacle Mtn and in-ground swimming pool on property. New carpet, blinds, washer and dryer, dishwasher. Owner pays cable and all utilities except Entergy.

My salary will be around $40k and my wife's salary $20k. Our home mortgage is $500/mo. Apartment rent $700/mo.

Is that cutting it too close?

You haven't asked a question there, have you?

And, for political reasons, I would make sure they have a copy of your birth certificate.

Thinly veiled brag?

i dont see a question... so i'll pretend you asked one, and will answer it.

Yes. With you gone the whole week, your wife will cheat on you.

Rent on the second place is more than your mortgage?
I hope you are making at least 1k more a month or the new job could help a lot with career advancement.

My home is in a very small town in the Delta. Rent would be in Little Rock.

Your total accommodation expenses as a ratio of your income is similar to ours - mind you we just bought our first house so you would expect it to be very high. It's tight for us but we don't really struggle.

$1200/mo isn't unreasonable for a couple making $60k, but it's hard to say much else without knowing anything about your financial situation.
