Rental cars : Insurance

I am renting a car and hence would get a car insurance from the rental counter. I would be charging the car do my card that also provides me insurance. So should I rather skip out the insurance from the rental company and let my credit car take care of it ? Last time some one hit me car in the lot but I had rental insurance and had no problems returning the car. Does any one have any sort of experience ?

Really depend on what type of CC you use and what your personal insurance covers. Most of the time, you should decline the rental insurance.

I always get the extra insurance, but I'm not the one actually paying anyway... my company pays for it... so why not get it since I don't have to shell out the extra $$$ for it?

Correct.
Most credit cards offer some type of rental car insurance (as long as they are used to pay for the rental car, duh 😛), and most full coverage auto insurance programs cover rental cars as well. It would be wise to check both with your card provider or insurance agent/carrier. Don't ask the rental car company, they make fat profits off the optional insurance.

Have you ever damaged a rental car ? What happens when you CC insurance covers it ? What happens at the rental car counter when you return. any hastles ?
