Rental car with colored marks on tires.

I am asking about a rental car, it has green sticker tabs on the wheels and orange tabs on the tires that align with the green. I presume it's to prevent theft of tires. Is this so? I wonder if rental car companies ever do anything else like this...

If you want to screw with them, get some tape and apply it at various places like the tabs.
