Rental car and damages

So i got a rental car for the day while my car is in the shop. My buddy took my gun which was in a case and accidently fires the thing at the door. Now there's a bullet hole in the door.

What the hell do I do now? I got the optional coverage on it for $15/day. Do I confess and say a bullet went through it or play stupid?

1. Wow.

2. You're carrying a loaded weapon? Wow again.

3. What idiot points and fires a gun? Loaded or not.

shens

if this is true, you should sell your gun and keep your friend away from them...you're bothing too ****** stupid to own one

If this is not a parody, then read whatever paperwork you have from the rental company regarding the insurance and see if there's any way they can make you pay for it.

Your buddy is an idiot.

You beat me to it!

OP, did you buy the extra insurance or have AAA? They cover a pretty wide range of damages. I know they covered bullet holes in Brockton, MA where the car was an innocent bystander in a gang-related shooting before.

If this actually happened, I'd say you've gone beyond "playing" stupid to "actually being" stupid. 😛

I'd buck up and tell them what happened and hope your insurance covers it. Otherwise, an ass-beating may be in order for your buddy.

I work for Enterprise Rent-A-Car and when things like that happen we have the customer sign a Damage Report saying exactly what happened and where. That report gets sent up to our Loss Control department. From there they would typically get in touch with the customer again and get exact details of the accident. It would be best for you to just tell the truth since you'll be signing a report for it.

Also, just because you purchsed the protection package for the car doesn't necessarily mean that you're in the clear. Damage waivers will cover you unless you're doing something while in the rental vehicle that will violate the terms of the contract, ie; reckless driving behavior, driving while intoxicated, unauthorized persons driving the car, etc.

Your rental company may try to state that "carrying and firing loaded weapons in and around the rental vehicle" is reckless behavior, and a violation of the contract.
