renewing a US passport

has anyone renewed a US passport recently? if so, how long did it take and would an expired passport take longer?

yes, expired takes significantly longer

not sure about the actual time frames

Took like 4 weeks for me if i remember correctly.

Renewal of a U.S. Passport
You can renew by mail if: Your most recent passport is available to submit and it is not damaged; you received the passport within the past 15 years; you were over age 16 when it was issued; you still have the same name, or can legally document your name change.

You can get a passport renewal application form by downloading it from this site.

If your passport has been, altered or damaged, you cannot apply by mail. You must apply in person.

you can expedite it just have to pay more... all info on this is easy to find online or at your post office.

i was just browsing the state department site and was amazed to find a specific timeline (for expedited)

"After you apply - You will receive your passport: Ordinarily, if you paid additionally for expedited service and two-way overnight delivery within about 2 weeks"

its nice to know that some govt depts are on top of things, the same couldnt be said for the INS (pre-dept of homeland security), although i am not sure they have their ducks in a row yet
