are they like regular Nicad rechargables? I've got a bunch of AAA and it specifically warns that you should only charge them in renewal rechargers. Is this their gimic to get to buy renewal rechargers or can they go in any charger? thx

Bump for a good question that I'd like to know as well. Also, can you mix different manufacturers' recharagable batteries with different chargers?

Do not recharge Renewal batteries on a standard Nicad or NiMh battery charger. The Rayovac Renewal charger does not apply a steady current to the battery like these other chargers because the Renewal batteries are alkaline. It pulses the power and is controlled by a microprocessor to prevent overheating. The Renewal batteries must be used with the proper charger.

crap! I put my 4 AA renewal batteries in a generic charger before I left for work because I couldn't find the renewal charger....they should be alright though, I've done it once or twice before and I haven't noticed any negative effects....they're just a bit warm.

but then again all batteries a bit warm to the touch after charging.

i thought it was their rechargable alkaline, if so, then bad. u can't let em run donw much either. more run down they are, less charges u have left.

Rayovac's model of Nimh(?) batteries.

No, they are rechargeable alkaline batteries. They only recharge like 10 times and they are dead. Nothing like nimh or nicad.

They are. I've got a dozen or so I bought 2-3 years back and if NiMH hadn't come along, I'd still be using them exclusively. Only charge them in a rechargable alkaline charger. Rayovac puts out some combo units that do NiCad and NiMH along with rechargable alkalines that are fairly priced, considering.

I was kind of surprised these things lasted as long as they did. For me, an average renewal battery seems to go through about 50 recharge cycles before they start holding a low enough charge to be useful (subjective observation), considering the packaging said 25 should be expected. Plus, there's the added benefit of a low self discharge rate compared to NiMH so charging up a few backups and storing them for a few months is no problem.
