I need to either renew Kaspersky or get something else. I was thinking about going with kaspersky Internet Security but not sure I need all that extra stuff.

Does anyone know if I can do a renewal option but choose Kaspersky Internet suite instead of AV or do I hve to buy a whole new subscription for KIS?

FWIW, Amazon and buy.com has a 3 user KIS 2009 license for about $32 or less shipped. There is also a KAV single license for under $20. If interested do a search for kaspersky on either site. I'm assuming that you could just add the key to your existing KAV install if you go that route. I'm not sure about the KAV to KIS switch.

Just a thought. Have you looked into any of the sandbox type of applications. Sandboxie, DefenseWall and GeSwall would provide better protection than any AV. It's something to think about plus you could still run one of the free AV's like Avira or Avast. I personally run all my internet facing apps inside the paid version of Sandboxie with a custom setup. I also run Avira free and Online Armor free (HIPS/firewall). YMMV if your running 64bit.

You can also get legit keys on eBay for cheap. That's how I got my NIS 2009 keys, and I verified their authenticity with Symantec's support.

If you can wait a week or so, you can get KIS at Fry's for free after rebate (they alternate KAV and KIS every two or three weeks).

I don't want to have to mess around with firewalls and stuff. Right now I just use KAV and windows firewall and the default firewall on my router.

Online. 3-User KIS package is free after rebate with free shipping beginning Friday, August 14.

It's KIS 2009 but the version doesn't really matter with Kaspersky -- you can update to the latest version for free and use your new key to get another year of updates.

If you would prefer KAV, just wait another week or so.
