Well, Hoover was gay, so I'd involve something with Liza Minelli or whatever. Maybe rainbows.

I was under the impression he was also a pioneer of non-binary gender-fluid self-presentation, so surely the existing name serves as a tribute to the trans-community?
(Though googling it it seems that's an unconfirmed rumour)

If anything the next Repub administration will name it right back to Hoover out of plain 'ol spite, or if they're feeling extraordinarily feisty, they'll name it after Trump for the votes it'll give them and to really get the Dems riled up.

Ugh, topics like MFA, police reform, ending the WoD, voting rights, wage reform, etc....should be on the agenda. Leave other stuff alone for now, prioritizing things that affect americans in their day to day lives is paramount.

Kind of a waste of time since the FBI will have to move in a few years anyway either to another DC site or somewhere in MD/VA. Just name the new campus something different.

I suggest we name it after a Dr. Suess story or character. Maybe HQ1, HQ2.

By all means rename it. Keep the deliberations behind closed doors and do it after midterms. Don't give the crazy right one more issue along with Dr Seuss and a plastic potato.

Trump wanted to move it but Republicans said no. I think they are going to renovate the current building.

The existing HQ building is literally falling apart and they've been trying to move for years. Trump stopped the process because he was worried about a site opening up for development so close to his hotel once it is torn down.

The FBI had long outgrown it anyway and is spread out all over VA/MD and they want to consolidate in a new facility. I think Springfield, VA was the leading contender IIRC but sites in MD were also on the table. DC obviously would rather it move within the city perhaps to Anacostia.

Other way round.

I think they are going to renovate the current building.

They're spending a few million bucks to keep it livable until they can move out. Highly probable it's replacement is funded this year once they select a site. Would not be surprised to see a temp move to VA in the meantime.

The 'renaming' frenzy across the country is out of control. I get it for some like Robert E. Lee High School, but some are absurd. Locally two major streets here, one a north/south, the other and east/west were named after families that owned slaves. Now there is a big push by a faction to rename them. I've lived here all my life, and I had no idea they were named after "slave owner families". And one of them also has the same name as a US General that was very prominent in winning WWII in Europe... so there's that.

Good thing that the IDE hard drive technology is a thing of the past. How outrageous to have to set a jumper to make one drive "master" and the second one "slave", that too would have to be renamed.

No, it's almost certainly moving. Currently two major sites are proposed and, I think, entering final stages of negotiation (Front-runner, I believe...is my neighborhood in MD; not sure I want the G-Men less than a mile from my house. ...or I dunno. Could mean better food options in the end.)

Trump wanted to keep it and endlessly complained that it was "too expensive!" I think it had to do with the proximity to his hotel, and he thought it increased property value and/or he just really gets a stiffy for that soviet concrete-block nightmare design that you find in such bureaucratic centers of that era.

I remember that some were complaining and pushing for that name change before sata came out.

He didn't want a site that somebody could put a hotel on to compete with his (which he massively overspent on) so he meddled int he GSA process improperly to kill the relocation, something which is now the subject of an internal investigation. That place is going under anyway soon.

Trump hates brutalism and most modern architecture so much he even issued an executive order, since rescinded by Biden, that all new Fed buildings had to be done in the classical style. Though given his love of smoked glass gilded in an ocean of brass and whore house/dictator grade Louis XIV interior decorating I'm going out on a limb that he's not exactly the best judge of style. I'm still stunned the Chicago property is a modern as it is though that's largely thanks to SOM.

Ahh yes, the good 'ol days of trying to beautify and tidy up the inside of a computer case full of IDE ribbon cables.
