Hey guys I just bought a cheap mp3 player and I downloaded some songs off the internet. When I try to save them to the mp3 player I get an error that cannot save remove write protection. Does anyone know how I can remove the write protection without burning a CD?

Manually record the song. Re-encode.
It's most likely that painful of a process.

What software are you using when you do that, or do you have some you can recommend. I'm really new to the whole music downloading aspect of it. I'm a gamer and networking guy.

This is a shot in the dark, but if the file player supports file attributes, see if "READ-ONLY" is enabled on this file. If so, uncheck the options in the file's properties window and then re-copy the file to your player.

I've had this problem when fixing ID3 tags with Winamp! Good luck man!

You'll need a cd burner and a cd ripper, usually something you can get in one program. Do a quick search on google or download.com, there are tons of them, just try and find one without spyware. I recently downloaded some songs from napster only to find they can't be read with itunes. I couldn't find any straight wma w/ protection to mp3 encoders so I burned the wma's to a cdrw in napster, then ripped the cd in itunes and it worked out just fine.

I really appreciate the advice but I'm really trying to get around burning a cd. Any other suggestions are always welcome.
