Removing Windows XP from an old drive.

Hello All,
I have an old drive that died, albeit not completely. The old drive is still readable.
I don't have the capacity to move all the files from the old drive to the new, so I'm cleaning out older system files on it. There is a series of folders and files under Windows that I can't delete. The opperation tells me that the directories are not empty, (sure look empty).
The folders are no longer hidden or system folders, as I've changed these settings thinking that perhaps this what needed to be done.

How do I remove these folders?

TIA
Neil

I also get this message when I try to delete, copy , or move files.

( Cannot delete <files>: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). )

H/W problems are probably preventing those files from being destroyed.
