Removing Windows Media Player From Left of a Folder

Just installed 2KPro. I'm using Winamp as my mp3 player. I'm using the "details" view in all folders, and when I single click an mp3, WMP shows itself to the left in the folder, just the play options, I guess a mini-player. It's more annoying than harmful to me, but I'd like to disable it anyways.

I'm not sure if this will help, but you could try going into Internet Options and disabling the 'play in window' feature. Probably totally unrelated. If you want to do away with the left sidebar completely, then go into Folder Options, General Tab, and select Classic Folder View.

The tasks sidebar can be manipulated by any program that cares to take advantage of its interface, so another program could possibly take WMP's place there, but I'm not sure where you'd find one.

EDIT: Oops, I thought you were using Windows XP. I haven't heard of this before, could you post a screenshot or something?

I turn off the "common tasks" pane on the left completly, its one of the first thing I do after installing windows. Tools >Folder Options, select "Use Windows classic folders".

This is one of the more annoying features in Windows, particularly when you're trying to copy a group of files from one drive to another. You'll often get "file in use and could not be moved" errors. It's enough to make one want to throw a brick at Bill Gates.
