Removing the stock thermal junk.

I'm thinking I might like to dabble in OCing, but beofre I invest in it, I'dlike to see what I can do with my stock HSF. It's fairly big, made by CoolerMaster. I replaced the standard fan with an L1A. My question is, how do I get the standard pink thermal pad/junk off it, so I can apply some AS2? Rubbing alcohol, acetone?

The best way to remove a thermal pad is with Goof Off followed by isopropyl alcohol. An old credit card makes a good scraper. If the pad has been melted, you may want to lap your heatsink to remove the residue from the microscopic pores. For more on why, read Thermal Interface Basics.
