Removing the stock Intel heatsink

One of the four corners won't come out. I have turned the dial to the unlocked position but it doesn't do anything. That one corner seems very set in the hole in the motherboard. I don't know if I should try to pull it really hard or something else. Advice?

Re-mount the other 4 screws, remove mboard, examine (and pinch) the little plastic foot from the other side to get it out.

Or, you could force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. I'm still in awe of the guy who managed to successfully install an AGP card into a PCIe motherboard, in spite of case clearance issues. You could be my next hero!

well, I don't care if the CPU cooler breaks but is there any chance of the mobo being damaged?

Circuit boards flex. If you're pulling 'really hard' there's always a chance you'll break a trace or dislodge a soldered component. Board traces are pretty thick right around the CPU socket. Might be safe, but then again if stuff goes flying around after you break the heatsink loose...
