Hi everybody

Yeah, I just bought a GOrb to replace the retail Intel Heatsink on my P3 700... but the Intel Heatsink + Fan is a BITCH to remove.

Any one tried doing this before? BTW I'm using the ASUS CUSL2 motherboard... is there something specific I need to watch out for while replacing the heatsink?

Can anyone give me a step by step guide as to how to do that? Sorry guys... never replaced an Intel heatsink+fan before...

Thanks in advance guys!!

not really sure, but i think u need to use a flathead screwdriver to get it off.. carefully.. well.. i put the retail hsf on the p3.. hehe.. the gorb didn't make good enough contact on the chip.. so i had to use the retail hsf instead.. but there are not problems you should worry about for installing the gorb

Should be easy, nothing really keeping the heatsink to the CPU, just the clips that hold it on the motherboard. I guess your trying to get it off the motherboard right? Push the clip down hard while you pull it away from where it clips onto the socket, shouldn't be too hard, don't remember the retail heatsinks being real difficult

Dude, there is an easy way to do that.
Get a screw or something that fits in the hole on the face of the chip.
Put the screw on a hard flat surface, then put the chip on the screw(in the hole), and then just press dowm.
It will click when the plastic retainer lets loose. Do it for all 4 holes.
Very easy, doesn't take much pressure, AND you can reuse the reatil hs/fan if you want cuz it doesn't break it.

There is a website that has detailed instructions on this, lemme see if i can find it.

(edit)here it is removing a p3 heatsink

Oh slot1? He didn't say if it was flipchip or not..
My slot1 i drilled the posts off, took a few min only. and was super easy, but you can't put it back on. i dono why you would want to though.
