Removing the fan from an Asylum Ti4600

The fan went bad on my Asylum Ti4600 video card and I'm not sure how exactly to remove it since it appears to be cemented on and doesn't budge.

Any ideas?

PS - Forgive me if this topic has been covered before - I'm getting nonstop JRun issues with the forum this evening and searches, when I could get them to work, revealed nothing.

freeze the card.. then twist the heatsink off once the glue is frozen.. it will just pop off..
make sure you twist though and don't pry.. i've wrecked a ti4600 trying to pry it off . I used to much force and scratched the core and the card wouldn't work in 3d anymore.

Whey don't you just send it in to and get a replacement newer generation card - that is if you are still under warranty.

I definitely wouldn't have thought of that or had the guts to try it on a whim! It sounds like a semi-reasonable approach. Thanks for the info.

I got the card a while ago so I'm not sure on the warranty. I did contact their tech support about this so I'll see what they say. Like I told them in the email - I still have the original packaging for the card but I have no clue where the original documentation is (if there ever was any, might've all been on the CD).

This fan died a few months ago and at the time I wouldn't have considered attempting to fix it myself. After reading about the topic a bit lately (and having a coworker tease me for being ignorant and lazy) I was thinking I could probably fix it myself for under $20 and get a tiny bit of experience at working on hardware.

BFG Tech has Life Time Warranties on their cards.

As long as your still alive they will replace it.

Most likely they will give you a 5900 XT as some have gotten. Test your luck, you won't get a worse card.
