Removing Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition

I'm a PC/Network tech at the company I work for. Our licensing for Symantec is about to expire at the end of 2008, and we're going to start rolling out Microsoft Forefront for our antimalware solution.

Problem is, Symantec doesn't seem to uninstall very cleanly. Does anyone know some good tools to remove Symantec off of a machine without too much of a mess left behind?

If it helps, we're using program version 10.1.5.5000 and scan engine 81.2.0.25.

Have you tried using the Norton Removal Utility?

During our Forefront switchover I always just removed Norton Corporate via add/remove programs. I had to make sure to also get rid of Norton Live update as well or I would run into problems when trying to install Forefront.

When I used to work at a school a lot of students had problems removing Norton though. If the uninstall failed if would be hard/impossible to remove Norton completely. In most cases when this happened Norton would not be able to be reinstalled if the uninstall procedure went sour.
 
I am still looking for a solution, and I'll contact Symantec for a version of NoNav. Are they the ones that distribute that?
 
I was running Symantec AV Corporate Edition 10.1.4 on my computer. The regular uninstall for it and LiveUpdate uninstalled it with no problems. There were just a few files and folders left, as happens after most program uninstalls, that I manually deleted. I replaced it with Norton AV 2009.
You could also run NoNav 2.49, but if you get a clean uninstall I do not think it is necessary.

It looks like for the most part, Symantec is uninstalling pretty easily, but there's a few clients here and there that just don't want to cooperate. NoNav 2.6 seems to be working out pretty well for those cases.

I also found another utility called "SavPluginUtil.exe" that removes some .dat files that would cause some strange errors to pop up while using Microsoft Outlook 2007.
