I am not a mac/apple guy necessarily, but I have a problem and need an answer from someone who knows such things. I cant find a straight answer by googling.

My fiance uses iMacs at work. Her employer recently purchased some sit/stand stations that require the macs to be VESA mounted(wall mounted). They bought the necessary kits to do so.

Anyway, her mac is a 21.5" A1311 (that is all I know it as). These mount kits come with a 'card' that you are supposed to be able to slip into the back of the stand where it goes into the mac to 'release' it. I, and others, have tried to find the 'latch' or spring that this card is supposed to contact to release the stand, but have not had any luck. It does not feel like there is anything to contact.

She called some kind of apple support number, and even they could not tell her one way or another for certain if this A1311 can actually be removed from its stand for VESA mounting. They told her to take it to a local apple retailer, but the only one in town is closed til Monday, and we need her up and going in the morning, if possible.

There are many articles and videos making this look very easy to do, but I cant get a straight answer... Can this particular mac be released from its stand? Am I missing something or some way of doing it?

Thank you for any input. I will be happy to provide any more information that is required.

Unfortunately A1311 refers to multiple iMacs. The model identifier would be much more useful. That said, that number is only used by the Aluminum iMacs (late 2009 to mid 2011), so they all share the same chassis.

Anyhow, only the 27" iMacs are VESA compliant. From what I understand there are some (ugly) hacks to get a 21.5" iMac on a mount, but they're not explicitly designed for it like the 27" iMacs are.

The 27" models are VESA compliant and can be easily wall-mounted whereas the 21.5" models are not VESA compliant and cannot be wall-mounted without ugly third-party hacks.

Anyhow, http://imacmount.com/ would be your solution.

It's not the ideal one, but it will work.

I sent him a message yesterday, and he called me back last night and confirmed that the stand cannot be removed. This was the reason for his product.

Anyway, I believe they are going to order some, and we will see how they work.

Thanks!
