Removing SecuRom?

I'm posting this on the security board because SecuRom is a threat to my computer. Ever since I downloaded the Spore Creature Creator (first the demo and then later bought the creator--both contain SecuRom) my CD-ROM drive has been acting up. Every movie I get from Netflix I try to play on it refuses to play. This I didn't have much a problem with, since I have a DVD player for the TV. However, this immediately became a problem when I inserted my Crysis CD to dust off its wings. No autolauncher came up. I tried to launch the game manually but I received a message telling me to insert the Crysis CD.

The only games I've been playing since I got the Creature Creator are Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights, Civilization 4, and LotRO--none that are affiliated with EA. But when I put in Crysis, whose publisher is EA? It acts like the CD doesn't exist. So this is officially a threat to my computer. Please, someone tell me there is a way to remove this from my computer aside from reformatting.

On a personal note, SecuRom and this whole DRM nonsense hasn't stopped pirating--it's stopped legitimate buyers. Just for fun I ripped and burned a DVD movie I own on a different computer and tried to play the movie on the computer that has SecuRom--amazingly enough it played. But when I try to play Netflix movies or games that I own? Yeah, amazing. I'm never buying a product from EA, or Maxis for that matter, ever again.

Anyways, yeah. Please tell me there is a way to remove this.
