what D-I-Y product is best for removing scratches? Most of it is not feel-able with the fingernail...

Most of the OTC stuff you find at Autozone is more filler than scratch remover. I'm not familiar with hand-powered polishers, but I am surethat if you check out Autogeek.net you will find something.

GS27 has worked good for me, even for scratches that are slightly more than just cosmetic (tick with your fingernail)

For years I have just been using mild-grit rubbing compound on a buffing pad with a circular polisher. I prefer the circular to an orbital polisher because it will do a much better job of feathering the edges of your work. Just make sure you don't burn through the paint.
