Like the topic says, I'm trying to remove the retention system on a Asus K8V SE Deluxe. I have the HS mount off, but the backplate is on the board pretty good. I just don't want to break anything. Is there a specific way to get the backplate off the board?

I'm going to install a Zalman 7700-Cu and need to install the backplate that comes with it to get the proper install height.

any help is appreciated.

thanks!

Some board manufacturers use double sided tape to adhere the backplate to the board. I've removed those before by just prying steadily and with increasing pressure from one corner. Heating it with a blowdryer may help (or freezing it). If you can't quite get your fingers around it, then you can use some plastic tool but that's risky. Don't use metal tools to pry because the tip will probably dig into the PCB.

Have you checked to see if the HSF can be mounted using the stock backplate? I know the mounting is a bit different than the 7700, but I've mounted a Zalman 7000 series using the stock backplate and screws. Just have to guess how much to snug the screws down. It's actually rather secure.
