i saw on a TV slow long ago that your supposed to put ketchup on it or something and it desolves it? Or was it lemon juice..i searched google using "getting rid of rust" and it dint help. Someone please reply quick. And no i cant just sand it because of my situation, which i am not going to explain but all i can say is that i need to put something on it that removes it.

acid. acid will eat oxides (rust is likely to be iron-oxide).

i imagine the lemon juice will work... eventually.

I tried using Coca-cola to clean a battery terminal after scrubbing it with a wire brush.

I think I saw my dad do it as a kid. The lead was in soda for an hour and nothing happened, so I don't believe in it anymore.

I hear a tooth in a glass of soda will disappear overnight.

Can we be more specific here.

What is rusted? Is it to be re/painted? etc

I assume he means nitric acid (HNO3) which probably isn't readily available over the counter... and it's an oxidizer.

Sodium hypochlorite is NaOCl, I think... and I think it's a weak oxidizer used for bleaching, It won't help you for rust.

Do you have to use household stuff? Can you go down to the hardware store and get some penetrating oil or over-the-counter rust agent (as others are suggesting)?

arg i dont even want to spend a buck. Now i remember what they said on TV 2 years ago. Ketchup works. Acid works. Tomatoes are high in acid, thus ketchup works.

What, exactly, is rusted that you need to unrust it?

really fine steel wool would work. Won't harm it like sanding possibly would. I use steel wool to remove rust from my golf clubs and the clubs remain spotless afterwards.

the tooth in the soda thing is wrong. Something that powerful would not be fit for human consumption.
