Removing Recycle bin from the desktop.

I succeeded in removing all other icons from the desktop, but can't figure out a way to get rid of Recycle bin. Any ideas?

TweakUI should have an option to get rid of the icon.

First, right-click on the Recycle Bin itself. And in the Global tab, check the box that says "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin" that way you won't have it filling up with space. I'd keep the Confirmation Display Dialog unchecked so that in case you hit delete by mistake, you can still back out of it.

Are you using WinXP Pro? If so, try this:

Then, go to Start--> Run--> and type GPEDIT.MSC

Scroll to User configuration\Administrative Templates\Desktop\"Remove Recycle Bin icon from Desktop" and set it to Enabled.

If you're not running WinXP Pro, this may not work, but I think there's a setting in the Registry that you can change using REGEDIT.

Also, why are you wanting to remove it from the desktop? Are you wanting a completely clean desktop? If so, you can always right-click on the desktop, go to Arrange Icons By, and uncheck Show Desktop items.

cool. never saw that option before.

Using the Hide Desktop Icons feature in XP yields a degraded wallpaper. I've checked this out with several monitors and video card combinations ...19" CRT Trinitron and GeForce 128 MB cards were glaringly degraded.

I modify the registry via TweakUI to rid the recycle bin and get the "clean desktop" look.
