removing/readding to domain + profiles

Red Squirrel

When removing a PC from a domain and readding I have to recreate the profile for each user. There's got to be an easier way to do this. Is there a way to transfer a profile to a new one?

ex: my old profile was C:\documents and settings\ryan.

Now it's c:\documents and settings\ryan.domain.

I REALLY don't want to have to redo everything. Like seriously, I may as well reinstall windows. 90% of the work of reinstalling windows is the profile creation. every single setting from FTP programs, browser, book marks etc... have to all redo/restore. It's a royal pain in the ass.

Is there a way I can just tell windows that when I log in, to use the old profile?

ok I managed to do it by just deleting the folder then renaming old one to match and setting permissions ok. But I had to do it twice. First time did not work. I rebooted, then it worked. Is there an easier way then this?

Like what do companies do when they need to migrate domains? I work for a company that could potentially do that in the future and I'm in IT so it's definatly something good to know. If I think my profile is bad to setup, I don't want to think about having to setup people at work. They outsource programing to this company called CGI and their apps suck. It would be hell to redo people's profiles.

I add machines back onto the domain all the time, never have to recreate the users profile on the machine if they had one on the PC beforehand ?

(just disabled 2700+ accounts in our AD this week for 'cleanup')

taking off one domain and adding to a new domain, then youd have to migrate them

OP, I guess you are talking about roaming profiles?....

Edit - nevermind, didnt realise you were talking about a new domain...

I couldn't tell from the OP whether we are talking a new domain or simply re-adding a PC to the same Domain. I assumed a new Domain.
