Removing Phantom monitor in Device Manager

Does anyone have a solution?

After I upgraded my Leadtek Geforce 2 MX drivers, none of my games would play. Then I discovered that
Device Manager listed two "Default Monitors" and since I only have one monitor, I "removed" both of them and rebooted. However, windows (98SE) insists on finding both and sets them up again. I have disabled one of the monitors and now my games play, BUT it annoys me that I can't get rid of the phantom monitor.

Help anyone?
