XP Home (Dell Machine)
IE 6

Looking for a way to disable (uninstall if need be) IE 6 from only one user on a machine with multiple user accounts.

If I uninstall it on this users account, will it affect the other users who still need the IE application? Reason being, is that I want to disable IE6 on my youngsters account and just use the AOL parental settings to limit time and sites visited.

Thanks in advance!

you can't uninstall IE from windows xp. if he is a young kid, just remove all shortcuts to IE and you should be fine.

Just into teens...smart enough to find it in program files to execute it without use of icons, etc.

Is there a way to just disable for one user?

You might be able to use permissions to restrict its use, as long as the kid doesn't have administrator rights.

The best solution is to get a hold of that kid's parents and make sure they watch him while he's online.

heh, take away read/execute permissions for the IE folder?

edit: i mean, he could still open a windows explorer window and use explorer's built-in IE functionality couldnt he?

It can, but in Safe Mode only since you have WinXP Home Edition. You could experiment... go to the Security tab of that directory (in Safe Mode) and add each individual's account except his, and then remove the Users group and the Administrators group.

Norton Internet Security has a Parental Control feature that can be set up to restrict Internet access on a per-account basis if you like.
