I'm going to use some Arctic silver for my T-Bird instead of the original thermal pad that came with my GlobalWin Fop32-1. I've cleaned most of the old thermal pad from the core of the cpu. There are specs left here and there along the edges. I got as much as possible off running a flat tip head of a screwdriver carefully along the edges. Do I need to get rid of it completely or is this acceptbale. I also used some isopropyl alcholol to clean the core. Some of the alcohol also got on a few of the bridges. Is that ok? This is my first time working with a CPU. Are there any other or better ways to clean an AMD cpu? Thanks! :)

just dry the alcohol and the little pieces should be ok....i'd try to get them off though. The idea is to have it perfectly smooth and no contaminents between the cpu and heatsink. I've read that even the oil on your fingers and hinder the trasfer of heat. I wouldn't worry about that so much though.

Try "goof-off" which is sold in most hardware stores...it will take the sticky residue off in seconds...then clean the bottom of heatsick with some isopropyl alcohol

This worked fine for me when I removed the thermal pad form my FOP-32.
