Removing items in "Start" Menu Shell ?

I generally right-click on Start to access Windows Explorer. Turns out that this contextual menu is now full of crap. I'm pretty sure I once knew how to remove these items but can no longer figure it out. TweakUI and all my searched on the web have been in vain...
I did find a proggie called ContextEdit but it works by file extension association and I can't figure the one for the Start Menu !
Any help appreciated !
