removing heat spreader

will removing the heat spreader from kingston hyper x ram damage it? and if anybody knows how to remove them easily, can you explain

I doubt it will damage the rams. Just make sure your case temp stays cool. As for removing, I always pry them open and slide them out.

Just curious - why would you want to do that?

Possibly becuase heat spreaders are a gimmick and not necessarily warranted if you have proper air flow in your case!🙂

Not really the whole purpose of a Heatspreader is to SPREAD the HEAT so to reduce hotspots, and as such create more surface area for the air flow within the case to cool down the IC's. So they are not a gimmick.

Also, the spreader keeps dust from collecting on and between the chips - another subtle cause of system reboots and malfunctions due to hot spots on the memory modules. Spreaders are easily wiped clean.

Exactly because the dust also acts as an insulation, therefore acting as a blanket.

Ummm no...in actuality if you have proper case ventilation heats spreaders are really not needed.....of course in my system I have a seperate slim fan blowing air on my memory....

lol exactly.. how many cases have good airflow over ram? not many.. its usually accidental by way of the cpu fan or side fan.

while generally they dont make a difference heat spreaders just might make the difference in some extreme setups. plus as was pointed out its very easy to clean dust off them.
