removing environment variables

How do you remove environment variables that don't show up anywhere except when you open a dos window and type path?
 
Right-click My Comptuer->Properites->Advanced->Environment Variables.

There is a user variable PATH and a system variable PATH. Change the one you want. You'll have to open a new DOS window to see the changed results; currently open DOS windows remain uneffected.
