Hey all,
I'll be helping my friend put some new front speakers in his grand am within the next couple days. Installing and wiring up the speakers are easy enough, but supposedly removing the front door panels is pretty tricky?

He has the 2 door coupe, with crank windows. Supposedly you need two special tools; one for removing the window crank, and one for releasing the door panel from the plastic clips holding it to the door? Hopefully someone here has experience with grand ams to help me out.

Thanks

just pop the door off with a flat head screw driver. start somewhere where it wont be visible, pop it, and then use your hands, becareful and maybe use gloves to protect your hands.

as for the crank im not sure

Every crank I have removed had one screw in the middle plus it needed a small pickle fork to pop off without scratching the door panel, but who cares when it is a 96 Grand Am? You can just a screwdriver to jimmy it out.

Some window handles that I've removed have had torx heads on the screws to remove them.

Incidentally, good practical joke: remove window handles and door handles on the inside - when "victim" gets in car, victim effectively locks himself in car.

please dont listen to these guys

there is a small clip where the handle meets the door. Its shaped like a horseshoe. You need to get that clip out to get the window crank off.
