Removing dead Add/Remove entries

Since I first installed Windows Xp I've developed quite the number of entries in Add/Remove programs that are dead. The program is no longer there but it keeps a shrine in the add/remove.

Is there any way to clean this up?

Other than reinstalling? (Although I really should.)

You'll find the entries located at:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Or automatically - Crap Cleaner. Freeware app that does all kinds of registry cleanups, in addition to a number of other functions.

Another tool is Microsoft's msicuu2 tool. It cleans up files left over from faulty installations. I had to use it to remove an entry in Add/Remove for a FarCry patch.

There is also Tweakui from microsoft. This includes many tweaks that addresses many windows "features" and removing items from add/remove is one of them.
