removing chewing gum liked materical from bottom of HSF

how do i remove the above so that I can apply Artic silver 2

goo gone / goof off, oven degreaser, palmolive, orange stuff,

use isopropyl after to wipe off residue

rubbing alcohol, i use 70%, dont use hydrogen peroxide (the other rubbing alcohol, too weak )

I just got my retail 1.6A last night and removed the black stuff with goo gone, it works great. Here's another question, the P4's have a heat spreader that covers the CPU, do I put AS on the whole thing? will it run or squeeze out the sides?

lighter fluid is also a good solvent

I used a razor blade to scrape about 90% of that thing off, and then sandpaper after that (Sanding it down with progrsseively finer grades - towards a mirror finish - *should* give you better contact to the chip itself for more heat absorbtion).
