Removing brace from sx1240?

I want to remove the support brace in my Antec sx1240 case, as it severly hinders cable routing. Anyone else ever try this? Any success? How would I remove the rivets the easiest? Will it be strong enough?

The support brace is probably there for a reason. I wouldnt worry about cooling the upper half of the case anyways. nothing really important up there ;) I have my HD's individually cooled by Coolermaster 4002's, so that's not a problem.

Easiest way to remove rivets is to drill them out.

Cooling isn't the issue, it's cabling.

Cables going through that little hole:

1x Floppy
2x IDE cable
8x 3-pin power
2x 4-pin power
8x temp sensor

It's hard just to fit the cables, much less go for any neatness points. Removing this brace should help. Plus I barely ever move my case & with as sturdy as it is anyways, it would take a lot to make it have any issues.

You might try drilling out the rivets, removing the brace and enlarging the hole, and then pop-rivet the brace back in. I agree that Antec cases are sturdy, but that brace is the only real support it has. Just my two cents.;)

I just want to make sure you guys know what part I'm talking about here. I'm not talking about the square-rod style brace that is in all the antec cases, but rather the flat piece of sheet metal that goes right below that brace.

Would it be possible for me to drill out the rivets and then screw it back in later (using the same holes)?

Yes.

Cabling? Sounds like you need rounded cables, if you dont already have them. Looks like you have a DD5 too, muahaha :)

Got a DD5
Rounded cables wouldn't help too much, plus it would be almost $60 for me to get enough (I don't want cheep quality cables). I may get a rounded floppy & 2 rounded IDE cables for the CD-ROM's, but the HDD's are gonna get either high-quality rounded cables, or flat ones.

So it would be possible to screw it back in if it is too weak? I guess if that doesn't work, I could always just pop rivit it back in myself.
