Removing antiglare coating from monitor

I found this thread where a guy explained how he removed the antiglare coating from his Dell U2711. I have no idea what role the distilled water plays-- seems like since it's a plastic coating the water shouldn't soak through and help unstick the adhesive.

Unfortunately the polarizer layer seems to be below the AG layer, instead of below the glass. So you have to be careful cleaning it or it will scratch.

I wonder how well a simple sheet of glass would work as a durable layer.


Edit: Holy crap, you can buy antireflective picture frame glass. But is it matte texture or chemically coated like camera lenses? http://www.123frame.com/pifrglandac.html
