Removing AMD IHS with a Scythe Ninja

As the topic states, I am thinking about taking the IHS off of my opteron 170.

I am curious if anyone has used a ninja on an opteron without the heat spreader.
Chances are, if there is a decent risk of improper preassure crushing the core then I will not do it.

My board is a K8N Neo2. This does not really matter since the ninja came with it's own mounting bracket, which works about the same as a P4 bracket, IIRC.

Any help or discussion is appreciated. Thanks

I've got a suspicion that because you can't adjust the height of the HSF, if you take the IHS off, they'll be insufficient contact between the core and HSF.

Taking the IHS only really works with water cos you can adjust the height of the block.

yeah, the clip system on the Ninja isn't going to work, at least you'd really be rolling the dice, becuase there is no guarantee you will get even pressure at all four corners when you clip it down. at the very least, you'll have to shave down the backplate quite a bit to get contact with the naked chip.

TT BigTyphoon works like a charm on naked A64s because of the screw-mounting system. You still have to shave a bit off the backplate, but it allows you to get good, firm, even pressure on the core.

Hmm ok, this is what I had suspected. ANy other good HSF units that would work? Pretty much any with a screw mounting system?

I am using a AMD stock 4-pipe heatsink on my Mobile Oakville socket 754 (same mounting bracket as s939). It works fine. All the mobile AMD 64 cpu should be the same height, so give it a try.

I was using a Zalman 7000B before, but the AMD stock heatsink is much easier to install.
